Cồn Sơn

Con Son is a small islet located on a branch of the Hau River, with a total area of 218 hectares (over 70 hectares of which are above water). It belongs to Zone 1, Bui Huu Nghia Ward, Binh Thuy District, Can Tho City. The islet stretches 3 kilometers in length, with its widest point measuring 500 meters and its narrowest point 150 meters.

In March 2016, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Suong – General Director of Hai Au Can Tho Tourism — first engaged with Con Son during a trip aimed at surveying the area, fulfilling a request from the Belgian organization Emotion Planet.

Since July 2016, Ms. Ngoc Suong has officially stood alongside the local community, providing consultation, guidance, design, and development of product packages for inbound tourists, all from the mindset of “Zero-Cost Tourism.” September 2016 marked the arrival of the first Western tourist group to Con Son.

From 2017 until now, HAEC has incorporated the Con Son product into educational tourism and experiential programs. Thousands of tourists organized by HAEC have visited Con Son and contributed positively to the sustainable development of this region.

The volunteer project “On The Map” was launched in 2024 as an initiative by HAEC and the Con Son Agricultural Tourism Cooperative. This project is considered a magical journey where passionate young hearts come together to plant the seeds of dreams for a sustainable community. It has connected 28 talented youths, 12 experienced mentors, and 5 coordinating members to create sustainable products aimed at the future.

Five weeks of lively English classes were held at Con Son, attracting a large number of locals of all ages. Smiles and cheerful voices created a warm and friendly learning atmosphere.

The “Heritage Communication” project has also achieved many successes: a 6-episode film series titled “Dìa Con Son” vividly depicts the simple beauty of life on the islet. A bilingual English-Vietnamese article collection and the photo series People of Con Son” promote the image of Con Son to friends both domestically and internationally. Emotional stories, poems, songs, and paintings about Con Son have been created by project members.
